TNS Product Commitments
The TNS Naturopathic Commitments
The Natural Source formulates its unique
naturopathic ranges of Daintree, Hi-Shine and Mayaltha to be as natural and as
close to plant sources as possible. They are formulated by experts in the field
of natural medicine to offer therapeutic benefits, as well as to be truly
pleasant to use. They are also manufactured to be as biodegradable and
environmentally friendly as we can make them. In practice, this means we
constantly review and update our programme as better alternatives become
available.
We do not use petrochemical derivatives, such as
propylene glycol and petrolatum. Our naturopathic products are naturally
fragranced by pure essential oils and do not contain synthetic aromas. The areas
where it is traditionally challenging to produce totally natural products are
those of preservatives and detergents or surfactants.
Preservatives
If preservatives are needed, we first look to
natural agents. In order to create products that are safe to use and have a
realistic shelf life, some formulations do require preservatives. This is
particularly true for products that contain a significant proportion of pure
plant extracts, which may in their bio-dynamically live stage, react with one
another when mixed. Where possible TNS products are developed to exist without
the need of synthetic preservatives.
The criteria we use when choosing a preservative
includes:
Surfactants
We choose surfactants very sparingly, and only
those from a sustainable source e.g. palm, coconut, sugar cane rather than petro-chemically
derived. We do not use ethoxylated detergents e.g. sodium lauryl sulphate, as
these may be toxic to the environment during the manufacturing process by
producing nitrosamines. We constantly review the surfactants we use to find the
most biodegradable, environmentally sensitive, effective and mildest detergents
possible.
New Products
When we develop a new product we use the following
criteria to assess whether or not it will be a product we would want to make and
use. Each TNS product needs to be:
-
As close to nature as possible
-
Efficacious
-
Safe
-
Environmentally sensitive and non-GE modified
-
Socially & ecologically responsible
-
Legislatively correct
-
Clearly and descriptively labelled
-
Fair value to quality/price ratio
-
Free from any possibility of third party
contamination
-
No animal compromise
The TNS "No Genetically Engineered" Product Commitment
TNS does not support the growing of genetically
engineered crops and the use of genetically engineered ingredients in foods and
cosmetics.
We do not include known genetically modified
ingredients in our products, and we aim to have a 100% GMO free product range,
whilst recognising that the introduction of GMOs in cosmetic ingredients is an
insidious process and needs to be constantly monitored and reviewed.
The TNS Environmental Commitment
Reduce, Re-use, Recycle. The three R’s are part of
the creed we all need to remember and apply to help improve our environment.
The amount of waste the world produces must be
reduced. At TNS we have always tried to avoid using anything other than 100%
recyclable packaging materials as a way of keeping waste to a minimum. We
believe, where possible, packaging should be reused by our society, so we
collapse and keep the cardboard packaging used for deliveries in our shops ready
for collection and recycling. We also limit our packaging materials to
recyclable materials and glass where possible.
The TNS Natural Product Commitment
The Natural Source supports the growth of healthy
produce and sustainable agricultural practices. Eco-conscious agriculture leads
to:
-
Increased soil fertility
-
Diverse habitats for wildlife
-
Reduced water pollution
-
Minimal use of finite resources
-
Healthier and known product ingredients
The TNS No Animal Testing Commitment
TNS has never carried out any animal testing and
we share the public concern that animals should not suffer in the testing of
cosmetic products. We do not support animal testing for any reason, believing
the results to be dubious and the practice abhorrent.
We do not allow other organisations to carry out
testing or development of products on animals on our behalf, and we require our
suppliers to meet these criteria. Our products are trialled using 100% human
volunteers with ingredients that are known as safe. We love it that way!
The TNS Customer Commitment
We aim to make naturopathy in beauty, skincare and
haircare accessible to everyone. We do this by supplying high quality
naturopathic products and by educating people in their safe and effective use.
The maintenance of wellness is an opportunity to
learn something about oneself, and creating health is only possible when we
actively participate in that learning experience. Using naturopathic products
and remedies may assist all of us in the transformation process of becoming
healthier and leading a more fulfilling life.
Learning to use naturopathic products to treat our
families and ourselves is a very self-empowering tool. This is why our staff
will take every opportunity to assist customers in learning more about our
naturopathic products, but refrain from recommending anything that may be deemed
to imply a cure. Staffs are trained to help refer customers to reference books,
leaflets and to provide information on TNS products and their beauty and
wellness benefits, but not to connect a remedy to a specific customer problem.
The customer is always encouraged to take responsibility for the decision,
especially by trying the products in-store.
When customers have an ongoing wellness or health
issue, benefit may be gained from visiting their trusted health practitioner who
may conclude by recommending such a course of naturopathic treatments. A number
of our retail outlets also have beauty therapy rooms attached, where people may
consult with well-qualified beauty practitioners.
